Memorial Day Family Camping Weekend

All Scouts and Scouting family members are invited to enjoy Memorial Day Weekend at Camp Robert Drake this summer.  Experience a woodland retreat away and get back to nature.  Families can enjoy the facilities at Camp Drake at their own pace. 

 

WOOD BADGE SIGN UP

Hear ye, Hear ye, WOOD BADGE SIGN UP IS OFF AND RUNNING!!! Scouters you do not want to miss taking the premier advanced training course known as WOOD BADGE that will be offered this fall (September 7-9 and October 19-21 @ Camp Drake)to all adult registered leaders, but the catch is, we only have so many spaces available.  So you need to stop by the Scout Shop and paid your deposit ASAP!!  The cost is $240.00 with ONLY a $80.00 deposit down now to secure a spot!!  Wood Badge is an excellent adult training that will only make YOU a better leader in Scouting and your professional life.  Oh did I mention…the food is not your traditional camp food, it is absolutely delicious and the camaraderie of meeting new Scouters will last a lifetime   For more information contact Course Director Marion Knight at:  217 778-4809 /email j-knight0900@att.net or Advisor Lovetta Ash-Simpson 217 531-0217/ lovetta.ash-simpson@scouting.org

 

New Youth Protection Training due by October 1

The BSA has rolled out a new, more intensive YPT that all volunteers must complete by Oct 1. Go to the www.prairielandsbsa.org and see unit resources at the bottom of the home page to take YPT2.

The training has several modules and each module must be completed before breaking.

 

Congratulations Sea Scouts!

Ship 1015 was recently selected as part of the 2018 National Flagship Fleet indicating that they have one of the Top Ten Sea Scout programs in the USA.

Curt Ware is the Committee Chairman and Chartered Organization Representative.

 

Candy Bars available

For units that have already settled up their sale, we have increased the profits to 40 cents per bar.  You can take bars by the box, instead of full case. Sell a few more bars and pay for summer camp trips.

BIG Camporee by the Lake

What a great spot for an outing!   Scouting events are planned at the Kennekuk Cove County Park near Danville.   Learn how to build and use a new fire cooking stoves. Learn to make useful camping gear from ordinary supplies! The 2018 Many Trails Spring Camporee will be held on the weekend of May 18-20.

 

Many Trails Cub Scout Volunteers

The Day Camp in the Woods for the packs in the Many Trails District is seeking volunteers to help conduct the fun programs on Saturday,  June 2.  A great crew of spirited Cub volunteers has created the program and a few more Cub Camp helpers are needed to fill all the slots of fun.    If you are able to help, please contact Kent McMahan at   born2bascout@gmail.com  to join the outdoor action.  

 

Many Trails District Meeting

Plans for the Scouting operations for the 6 county territory on the east side of the Prairielands Council will be discussed next week.  The Many Trails District meeting will be held on the second Thursday of the month (5/10) at the Danville Scout office located at 305 W. Woodbury St. in Danville from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.   Membership, finance and program topics will highlight the agenda for this month. 

 

CAMP DRAKE

 

Adventure Camp Change:

To accommodate Cub Campers attending the 2018 “Cubs on the High Seas” Cub Scout Adventure Camp, the next fee deadline for both youth and adult registration has been altered from April 20 to Friday, May 18.   Please have your full fees paid at that time for your fun “on the banks of the Salt Fork” at Cub Scout Adventure Camp.

 

Camp Drake Needs Service

Next Saturday, May 12 has been designated as another Work Day for Camp Drake.   Volunteers, both skilled and unskilled,  are urged to help prepare Camp Drake for summer.  A part of the service required will be painting, so if you have skills in that area please wear proper clothing.  Please RSVP to Mike Graham, @  (217)  531-0212 so that a lunch can be prepared for you.  Work projects will start at 9:00 am at the Tin Shed on May 12

 

Fifth Grade Scout Camp Fees Discount

An exemption from the normal camp fee deadline will be allowed for new Boy Scouts.  Any new boy joining your troop in the spring will be held to a later deadline.  Now is a great time to invite boys of any age to enjoy the excitement of summer camp. Please submit your crossover Scouts to Susan at susan.coller@scouting.org or 217-531-0219 to receive the discount!

 

Summer Camp Menu Concerns?

Do members of your summer camp contingency to Camp Robert Drake have any Special Dietary needs? We want to help, but you need to tell us!! Email Mike Graham AFTER fees are paid but more than 3 weeks before camp.    The Camp Kitchen may not be able to accommodate special dietary needs that are not shared in advance to mike.graham@scouting.org  due to the camp's food delivery schedule and staffing plan.

Cub Scout Adventure Camp Jumpstarts New Webelos

 Cub Scout Adventure Camp provides an early opportunity for Cub Campers to begin new advancement requirements for newly transitioned Scouts.  Current Bears (3rd graders) who move up to the Webelos program are able to enjoy a tremendous advantage by attending Cub Scout Adventure Camp.  Many program requirements are easily fulfilled by attending the camp and participating in all of the outdoor programs.   All levels of Cub Scouting are encouraged to attend the four-day, three night program with activities geared up for all ages.  Visit  https://www.campdrake.com/cub-scout-adventure-camp/

 

Family Fun Fest

The last weekend of July is set up for a fun family campout at Camp Robert Drake.  All ages levels will be able to enjoy the outdoor events.   Look for the registration materials at www.campdrake.com

Boy Scout Recruiting

Troop leaders in the council are encouraged to contact local 5th and 6th graders about the fun of Scouting.   The opportunity to join a troop during the great upcoming camping season is here!  Special invitations can be personalized to advertise your fun troop events in the near future.

 

Special Scout Option for Summer Camp

Any Boy Scout can attend Camp Drake as a part of the Prairielands Council provisional camping option without their hometown Scoutmasters.  Join the Bugle Troop from July 15-21 this summer. This summer there are multitudes of adventures you can undertake to fill your summer with fun exciting challenges.  You can come back to camp to work on extra merit badges, awards, relax, or to push yourself to discover new events.

SCOUTMASTERS’ NOTE: The 2018 Spring Fellowship is the last event for elected candidates from 2017 to participate in their Ordeal ceremony.  Please follow up with any outstanding candidates to remind them of this deadline.

May the Fourth be with you!  With only days until Spring Fellowship, it is Star Wars time.  So be sure to sign up!  This year will be the best ever!  Our Activities committee has been cooking up a great  EXTRAVAGANZA.  You won’t want to miss it!

For one week, all things of the Brotherhood of Cheerful Service will converge on southern Indiana for a grand celebration that the Wimachtiendienk has ever seen.  Start making arrangements now for July 30 to August 4th, 2018 for an Arrowrific event of the ultimate magnitude. 

 

Get Your Brotherhood

Scouts and Scouters who are already Ordeal members in Lodge 55 may choose to seal their membership in the Order by completing Brotherhood ceremonies. The ceremony will be held this weekend, as well as during each week of summer camp. Please encourage all current Ordeal members to participate in this important commitment to service.
