Ignorance is not bliss; is NOT an option
The new Quality Unit requirements have come with an added benefit- now we are able to get reports that tell us what percentage of the leaders who are "Direct Contact" leaders (ones who are working with the youth) are trained. Many of you have already heard from your unit commissioner what the score for your unit is- if not, you will soon. What did we find out? Read More..

Why Should You Attend Training?
Recently the very large company I work for sent me to a week long training course that they encourage all their managers to take. I was surprised to discover that about 75% of that class was almost identical in content to Scouting’s Wood Badge course.Read More..

New Leader Essentials

New Leader Essentials is an introductory session that highlights the values, aims, history, funding, and methods of Scouting.

Ideally, all unit-based volunteers—Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, and Venturing leaders—take this session at the same time, so they understand that they are all striving for the same results with the youth they serve. Each leader completes New Leader Essentials training only once.

Leader Specific Training

Cub Scout Specific Training, Boy Scout Specific Training, and Venturing Specific Training are more, well, "specific" to your role.

* Tiger Cub den leaders
* Cub Scout den leaders
* Webelos den leaders
* Cubmasters
* Pack committee members
* Scoutmasters
* Troop committee members
* Venturing committee members
* Venturing Advisors

After completing this training, NLE, and Fast Start, you are awarded the "Trained" patch.

Roundtable

Roundtable is a monthly program put on by your district. Scouters of all experience groups attend and share ideas as you prepare for the coming month's worth of activities.

A list of dates and times can be found on your District's website.

Outdoor Training

BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation)
This is for the new Cub Scout pack leader who will be planning and implementing the outdoor program for the pack. It is basic information on the outdoors and equipment that may be needed, health and safety issues and required permits.

OWL (Outdoor Webelos Leaders)
The hands-on skills taught are those needed to work with Webelos Scouts. Emphasis is on information needed to teach the outdoor related activity badges.

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills
The skills taught are based on the outdoor skills found in The Boy Scout Handbook. Subjects covered include: flag etiquette, plant identification, packing and hiking techniques, map and compass, cooking and first aid.
