LDS Merit Badge Clinic

The Annual LDS Merit Badge Clinic is this coming Saturday, November 11th at the LDS Church (604 W. Windsor, Champaign) from 8-3 p.m. To participate scouts need to register at the following link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2017-champaign-stake-merit-badge-clinic-registration-39506268312.

New Crew in View

High Adventure options will be available on the east side of the Prairielands Council as a new crew is being formed in partnership with the Vermilion County Conservation District.   Activities will take advantage of the great outdoor facilities throughout Vermilion County with back packing, kayaking, and shooting sports adventures on the horizon.   For more information, please text  @crew-365 to 81010

 

Membership Inventory

The months of November and December are good times to conduct a Membership Inventory with your favorite Many Trails District representative.  Commissioners from throughout the district will be contacting unit leaders for their youth and adult members to clean up registration concerns prior to printing the new charter kits.  Please assist in this process by having an updated unit roster with current membership information on Scouts and leaders. 

 

Live Youth Protection Training

You probably have taken the Youth Protection Training in the recent past, but has that been over two years ago?  If that’s the case, it is two years later and times to take it again!! It is very important that we do all we can to protect our youth and that we stay up to date on how we can all do Scouting Safely. Attend the Many Trails Roundtable on Nov. 9 at 7:00 pm to take the live version.  Be sure to bookmark and visit the Youth Protection web site at www.scouting.org/youthprotection  to take the online training.

 

Re Charter Season 

The recharter packets for all packs, troops, and crews are available to be picked up at the District Roundtables this week.  Starting on Thursday, 11/9/17, charter packets will be distributed.   Please be on hand to get a good start to the re-registration process.

 

Countdown to Camp Launch 12/9/17

The date is fast approaching for all the special opportunities available at the Camp Drake Launch, on Saturday Dec. 9, at 9:00 am in Auditorium A.B.C. at Presence Covenant Medical Center, 1400 W.  Park, in Urbana.  The Camp Launch will feature highlights for next summer’s outdoor adventures like the older Scout option and the new shooting sports options.  There will be over 20 different Scouting related table displays offering additional information on high adventure, training, advancement, and camping options.  Countdown to the plethora of Boy Scouting details will be on Saturday, 12/9/17.

 

VenturingFest 2018

District Roundtable

Many Trails District Roundtable is Thursday, November 9TH, at the Second Church of Christ in Danville at 6:30 pm.  COME OUT AND GET THE LATEST SCOUTING NEWS BOTH LOCAL AND NATIONAL, ALSO IT IS A GREAT WAY TO CONVERSE WITH OTHER SCOUT LEADERS!!  So come on out and bring a new leader, parent with you and help us to continue to build a great Scouting program in our communities!! 

 

Many Trails District Award

CONGRATULATIONS to the 2017 District Award of Merit Recipients from the Many Trails District.  The awards were presented last Sunday as part of the Council Leadership Celebration.  The recipients include Parker Arnholt of Danville and John Sudlow of Oakwood.   Parker has served in many roles at Camp Drake and in the Order of the Arrow.   John has provided dynamic leadership to training courses throughout the council, as well as exceptional guidance to Cub Scouting activities.  Thank you gentlemen for your dedication to Scouting in the Many Trails District

Gold Rush in January

Join the patrols  from throughout the Prairielands Council as they enjoy the cold-weather thrills of the Klondike Derby Saturday, January 27, 2018.   The annual winter challenge will feature outdoor challenges for Boy Scout troops and Venturing crews from throughout central Illinois and Indiana.  We are talking about the big golden nugget for the 2018 Klondike Derby.

Cub Camp Launch

The Prairielands Council Program Pirates are fired up to find a treasure chest full of camping details at the Cub Camp Launch”.  The 30 minute info session will follow the Boy Scout Camp Launch on Saturday,  December 9th, beginning at 11:00 am in Auditorium A.B.C. at Presence Covenant Medical Center, 1400 W.  Park, in Urbana. For four days and three nights, a pirate theme will invade the tents, trails, and forests of Cub Scout Adventure Camp “on the banks of the Salt Fork”.

Golden Nuggets 2018

Camp Robert Drake is the site of the annual winter camping challenge for Boy Scouts, Venturers, and their sleds.  All Boy Scout troops and Venturing crews are encouraged to start practicing for exceptional achievement in cold-weather activities.  Cheer for your favorite troop or crew at the big Klondike Derby on Saturday, January 27, 2018 on the banks of the Salt Fork!

 

Wood-cutting Efforts at Camp Drake

The cold-weather season is approaching and the wood stoves will need to be fed. Volunteer work crews will be helping to prepare the winter wood supply for the cabins of Camp Robert Drake on Saturday, November 11, 2017.  Beginning at 9:00 am at the Tin Shed, crews will be assigned to cut or split wood to provide heating fuel for the cold-weather campers.  If you have your own equipment, you are highly encouraged to bring it along and it would be greatly appreciated.  A pizza lunch will be provided at 12:15.

Congratulations to the New Chief

Phillip Watcher of Troop 13 in Champaign was elected to serve as the Lodge Chief for Illini Lodge for 2017-2018.  Phillip is an Eagle Scout, Vigil Member and has served the lodge as the Treasurer, and a hard working leader of the 2017 Section Conclave Team.   Phillip has served at Camp Drake as the ROAP Area Director. 

 

Lodge Leader Training

As an Order of the Arrow member, young adults are expected to act as a leader. Illini Lodge invites all arrowmen to attend the annual leadership seminar to provide instruction on management techniques that will be useful throughout your life- in and out of Scouting.  The Lodge Leadership Development will review leadership styles, effective communications, and the committee structure of Illini Lodge. The many aspects of people management will be reviewed in context with lodge and troop operations at the annual Lodge Leadership Development Conference on Sunday, December 3, located at the Illinois Fire Safety Institute in Champaign.   All arrowmen, both youth and adult, are encouraged to participate in this lodge-building activity.  Refreshments will be provided, but there is no registration fee.

 

Congratulations New Vigil Honor Members

As the highest level of the Brotherhood of Cheerful Service, Vigil Honor members are proud to announce new Vigil Honor candidates on Saturday evening, October 21st at Camp Robert Drake.  One special evening each year is held to recognize long-term dedicated arrowmen by calling-out the newest Vigil Honor candidates for Illini Lodge.  The arrowmen recognized were Bryce Vorick, Nathan Schuele, Blayne Beeson, Karen Martin and Randy Coffey.  Congratulations to these remarkable individuals for their years of service in our cheerful brotherhood.

 

Arrowman Holiday Party

Arrowmen of the Prairielands Council will gather on Sun., Dec. 3 to enjoy the festive fellowship of our lodge.  Mark your calendars for the funniest gift game of the holiday season.    In conjunction with the leadership development of the lodge meeting, a goofy present game will exchange cheer with antlered arrowmen.  Bring along your arrowmen buddies for a celebration of OA brotherhood.
