New Scout Shop Hours

Effective Monday March 20, the Scout Shop hours will be 10am to 5:30pm.  If you need to arrange a time other than those hours, please contact Sharon Kirk at:  . Office hours will continue to be 9am to 6pm.


Candy Bar Update!

This is the last week of the Candy Bar Sale.    If you would like to continue selling you can do so.  However, we need to have all returns done by April 7, 2017!!!    We will not accept returns after April 7th.


Please let me know your top salesman for the unit.  I need a name and how many boxes he sold.  The top salesman for the Council will receive his choice of a Drone Quadcopter or Lego Star Wars Set and a Walmart gift card.   District top sellers will also be recognized with a prize and gift card.


If you would like to return unopened cases please contact Sharon Kirk at 217-531-0218 or by email     Units should turn in money by March 31, 2017 for the candy bars that have been sold to date.   


Trail Tromp this Saturday

On the Onaquispasippi Trail you will enjoy spectacular views around the valleys. TRAIL TROMP is hiking on to your calendar this Saturday, APRIL 1.  A great day to be in the woods.


Tool Time Four Eight

All Scouts, Scouters, and parents are welcome to help prepare camp on 4/8/17. The Tool Time Work Day starts at 9:00 am at the north end of the Tin Shed at Camp Robert Drake near Oakwood, IL.  A lunch will be served at 12:15 and a recognition distribution will be conducted at the end of the day at 3:00 pm. 


2017 National Jamboree: A Once In A Lifetime Experience!

We are still looking for more Scouts to fill out the Prairielands Council Contingent.  Boy Scouts who are First Class and age 12 (or 11 and completed 6th grade) and under age 18  may attend.

Salvation Army Volunteers Needed

The Salvation Army Thrift Store is looking for several Boy Scouts to help with the thrift store.  A full description of the job responsibilities can be obtained by clicking here. 


United Way Volunteers Needed

The United Way is working with a great team to host an event at Garden Hills Elementary School for families with young children (ages 0-6).  They need some Scout muscle power to help set up tables the night before on Friday, March 31 from 5:15-6:15 PM.  You do not need to stay later or take down the tables.  What a great opportunity to help an organization that helps support Boy Scouting.

Program Kickoff

The annual program planning kickoff will distribute the new dates for Scouting at the Many Trails District Meeting for April.  Scouting opportunities will be previewed at the roundtable on the second Thursday of the month (4/13),   from 6:30 to 8:00 pm


Spring Camporee

Numerous paths to adventure can be found north of Danville.  The 2017 Many Trails Spring Camporee will be held on the weekend of May 19-21 where fun Scouting events are planned for the North Fork Lodge.  The campground has scenic trails, a wonderful fishing lake, and an excellent shooting sports area.  Plan now to be part of the rewarding outdoor weekend.




At Drake-a-palooza

Shooting Event Various levels of Scouting programs will compete in the Camp Drake Marksmanship Challenge


Drone Demo During the afternoon festivities, a demonstration of drone technology will be provided for any Scouts and families in attendance.


GAGABALL Tourney Check out the action at the Gagaball pit for a series of afternoon contests for various age groups.


Pinewood Fun Race  Bring your old pinewood derby cars to race against anyone in the Dining Hall


Rocket Launching   The Launchpad will be ready for any Scouts and their rockets


Trading Post   Will be open from 8:30 a.m-4:30 p.m.  It’s your headquarters for all of your camping and trail needs.   There will also be a concession stand open from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.  that will be serving lunch with such items as pizza, hot dogs and chips.    Check out the Camp Drake Facebook page for more details.

COLLECTIONS MB Part of 85th Anniversary Celebration

A portion of the 85th Anniversary Celebration of Camp Robert Drake will be the encouragement of Scouts to start their own BSA memorabilia collection. Beginning with the Drake-a-palooza event on April 1st, Scouting patches and emblems will be shared at no cost with participating Scouts to help them start a collection. Patches will also be distributed at the district camporees this spring, as well as at summer camp. Using this collection, the Scout can then work on the requirements for Collections Merit Badge.





Any Boy Scout can attend Camp Drake as a part of the Prairielands Council provisional camping option without their hometown Scoutmasters.  Join the Bugle Troop from July 16-22 this summer. This summer there are multitudes of adventures you can undertake to fill your summer with fun exciting challenges.  You can come back to camp to work on extra merit badges, awards, relax, or to push yourself to discover new events. 




Cheerful Service Option!

Lovetta Ash-Simpson could use some cheerful arrowmen for the Council Pinewood Derby Championship!  Set up will be Saturday April 8 at 10 AM!  Contact Lovetta Ash-Simpson at to help out! 


April Lodge Meeting

The next Illini Lodge meeting will be April 2 at the Illinois Fire Service Institute at 3 PM.  We will be covering some very important information so be sure to be there!  All arrowmen are welcome to attend and get involved.   Join a committee and help make a difference in Scouting on the council level.
