CANDY!!! CANDY!!! CANDY!!

I just ordered 25 more cases of Variety.  They should be here on Wednesday (March 15, 2017).

We still have candy available for pick up in Champaign and in Danville.   If you email or call me ahead of time I will make sure we have it available and have it pulled and waiting for you.  Contact me at sharon.kirk@scouting.org or by phone 217-531-0218.   If you want to pick up in Danville please make arrangements with Mike Graham at mike.graham@scouting.or or by phone 217-531-0212.

If you have extra candy that you don’t think you will sell please let me know and I will accept returns.

 

Tool Time March One Eight

All Scouts, Scouters, and parents are welcome to help prepare camp this weekend. Basic cleaning will be needed in the program areas and campsites.  All Tool Time participants should bring their own equipment if possible, but some rakes, brooms, and loppers are available.  The 1st Tool Time Work Day is set for Saturday, March 18th at 9:00 am at the north end of the Tin Shed at Camp Robert Drake near Oakwood, IL.  A lunch will be served at 12:15 and a recognition distribution will be conducted at the end of the day at 3:00 pm.  Please encourage your pack, troop, or crew to help with this Tool Time date, or another Saturday on April 16th or May13th.

 

Drone Demo at Drake-a-Palooza

Check out the drone demonstration as part of the Drake-A-Palooza activities on Saturday, April 1st at Camp Drake.   During the afternoon festivities, a demonstration of drone technology will be provided for any Scouts and families in attendance.

 

Council Pinewood Derby Race

Save the date and plan to be among the contestants!  Saturday April 8, 2017 at Judah Christian School (908 N Prospect Ave, Champaign).  Each Pack can send up to six Scouts for the Race Division and six Scouts for the Show Division.  A Scout can only compete in one division.  Registration fee:  $7.00 per Scout (includes race participation, insurance and patch).  Registration due for all Race and Show Divisions by March 27, 2017.  Payment due with registration at the Raymond Lee Scout Service Center.  Registration form and Race Day schedule available here:

OPEN RACE this year.  Open to all Scouts, siblings, adults, friends.  Only $10.00 per car entry.  Trophies will be awarded.  Race will follow immediately after the Council Race Division.  FLYER

Prairie Fire District Camporee

“TREK AROUND THE WORLD”!!!  April 21 – 23, 2017.  Planet Camp Drake.   Explore experiences based on countries from around the world.  Get your passport punched.  Compete with other patrols for fastest, furthest, best.  Win the trophy and be the first around the world.

Registration is open now.  Cost:  $15.00 per person ON OR BEFORE April 14, $20.00 per person after April 14th.  (Volunteer Staff only $5.00)  Cracker Barrel for all staff, Scoutmasters and SPL’s on Friday night.  Saturday lunch provided.

CAMP DRAKE

 

Tromp the Trail April 1

Blaze the trail through the woods at the annual Trail Tromp hiking day at Camp Robert Drake on April 1st to win your own Global Positioning System.   All of the Trail Tromp participants will be eligible for the drawing for a hand-held GPS device, sponsored by Illini Lodge of the Order of the Arrow

 

Shooting Event at Drake-a-palooza

Various levels of Scouting programs will compete in the Camp Drake Marksmanship Challenge on Saturday April 1sth, 2017.   Join the Shooting Sports fun from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Nogle Shooting Sports Facility on the south side of the camp. 

 

MANY TRAILS DISTRICT

 

Many Trails Program Planning

The annual program planning kickoff will be held at the Many Trails Roundtable in April.   District volunteers will provide the traditional delightful Scouting informational talks for your Scouting groups.  Outdoor opportunities will be previewed at the roundtable on the second Thursday of the month (4/13) from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.  The wide array of Cub Scout and Boy Scout camping options will highlight the presentations.   Be there for the fabulous outdoor Scouting experience!

 

Candy Bar Pick-up in Danville

The Danville Scout office will be one of the sites for the Camp Candy Sale.  The office will be open each day this week from noon until 5:00 pm.   Please call ahead, if you know a specific time you will be there.  For more info on the Many Trails candy pick-up, call Mike at 531-0212.

 

Camporee Return!

Numerous paths to adventure can be found north of Danville.  The 2017 Many Trails Spring camporee will be held on the weekend of May 19-21 where fun Scouting events are planned for the North Fork Lodge.  The campground has scenic trails, a wonderful fishing lake, and an excellent shooting sports area.  Plan now to be part of the rewarding outdoor weekend.

Pinewood Fun Run

Just for fun as part of the Drake-a-palooza, Camp Drake summer staff members will host Pinewood Derby racing at the fireplace end of the Dining hall.  All Cub Scouts are encouraged to bring their Pinewood Car and race against the pack.  Any Scouts and Scouters are welcome to bring out their veteran vehicles and enjoy the simple fun of Pinewood Racing.   Please remember the 5 ounce weight rule.  There are no trophies so there is no cost….just another chance to see your Pinewood Car speeding down the track!   Racing will be open from 11:30 am  until 3:00 pm.

 

Treasure at Trail Tromp

All Scouting members will make the trail day special with prizes for all ages of hikers to discover outdoor opportunities.  There is no fee for the Trail Tromp, and the check-in station will be open from 9:00 am until noon on Saturday, April 1st! Walk the Onaquispassippi Trail and uncover secrets of the out-of-doors and prizes for our leaders of tomorrow. A Trading Post will be open for the purchase of camp souvenirs and trail memorabilia.

 

Crossover Benefits for the 5th Graders

Recognition and Orientation Opportunities-open to 5th grade Webelos Scouts crossing over into Boy Scouting on many levels.  This stage in their Scouting career can be a critical time for the future enjoyment of Scouting.  

 

Arrow of Light Plaques and Arrow Kit Coupon

Illini Lodge of the Order of the Arrow has created an impressive framed certificate for all Arrow of Light recipients in the Prairielands Council. This colorful plaque displays the name and year of the recipient recognizing their achievement in earning the highest award in Cub Scouting.  As an incentive to continue their Scouting path, the Brotherhood of Honor Campers (OA) is providing an arrow kit coupon to be used this summer at Camp Drake.  These new Boy Scouts will be able to enjoy the fabulous facilities at Camp Drake. 

 

Arrowhead Award Ceremony Recognition at First Campfire

All of the Arrow of Light recipients who attend Camp Drake this summer will be recognized at the opening campfire for this achievement.  During the festive atmosphere of the welcoming camp skits, each new Boy Scout that has earned the Arrow of Light will be called on stage by members of the Illini Lodge Ceremonies Team to receive a special Arrowhead Award for their achievement.

Summer Camp Fee Reminder

All troop leaders planning to attend Camp Robert Drake this summer should note the timing of the summer camp fees deadline.  Please remind your Scouting families that the Boy Scout summer camp fee date to save from paying added late fees is Friday, April 21st

 

Bugle Troop

Any Boy Scout can attend Camp Drake as a part of the Prairielands Council provisional camping option without their hometown Scoutmasters.  Join the Bugle Troop from July 16-22 this summer. This summer there are multitudes of adventures you can undertake to fill your summer with fun exciting challenges.  You can come back to camp to work on extra merit badges, awards, relax, or to push yourself to discover new events.

Trail Tromp

Get on the hiking boots and Get On the Onaquispasippi Trail!  See the spectacular views around camp.  Add to your springtime calendar of fun events – the TRAIL TROMP is hiking on to your calendar on Saturday,  APRIL 1ST.  Walk the Onaquispassippi Trail and uncover secrets of camping past and prizes for our leaders of tomorrow. 

 

Spring Fellowship

Come out and have fun with ARROWMAN friends as you spend the weekend of the activities we will be doing, as well as an evening dinner. We will also be doing service to help prepare camp for summer camp. Spring Fellowship is May 5-7. If you want to stay in a cabin that will be an extra $10 on top of your registration fee and your cabin is not covered under the speed pass. We hope to see you out there for a fun Order of the Arrow themed weekend.
