Webelos Crossover Highlights Cub Scouting

As the current fifth grade boys are honored with the highest award of Cub Scouting, the Arrow of Light, please try to provide a positive crossover ceremony though their pack and troop.  If you are involved with this level of Scouting, please take the time to conduct meaningful recognition programs for these important boys and their parents.  As a new Boy Scout, it will be critical for these families to receive the important details on troop operations and their activity calendar as soon as possible.  Pack leaders should assist these new Scouts and prepare them for their biggest opportunity on the horizon….summer camp.

Blue or Gold Placemats for Banquets

Pick up your Cub Camping placemat to decorate your special meeting in February and March.   Start to share your summertime options with Day Camp options for your pack.  The placemats are available at the Raymond Lee Scout Service Center in Champaign or the Danville Scout office.  Illini Lodge of the Order of the Arrow is happy to sponsor your promotion of Cub Camping this summer.

Plan Now to Create Summer Adventure

Look to plan a summer calendar that will provide simple day events, as well as extended outings and trips, to provide each family a choice for their family schedule.   Most importantly, encourage a variety of leaders to coordinate and prepare administrative details, in order to share the organizational load.  Finally, communicate the plan to all the families as early as possible, to allow time for Cub Scout campers to make their own schedule adjustments and meet financial and/or equipment requirements.

BOY SCOUT

Klondike Jam Sports page

A large POLAR BEAR PAW round of applause for the 2017 “Polar Bear Jam” contest champions at the various challenge stations around the Alaskan Territory.  The Great Nanook congratulates all the youth leadership guiding their groups in the great opportunity for using the patrol method.   The adventure of conquering the winter elements at the Klondike Derby is a wonderful part of the learning through experiences.  See the attachment for the challenge winning patrols…

Tool Time to Help Camp Drake

All Scouts, Scouters, and parents are welcome to help prepare camp for all the fabulous activities in 2017.  Primary projects will focus on clearing campsites and removing brush, brambles, and leaves from program areas.  Basic cleaning will be needed in the cabins and buildings.  Spring cleaning begins on Saturday, March 18 at 9:00 am at the north end of the Tin Shed at Camp Robert Drake near Oakwood, IL.  A lunch will be served at 12:15 and a closing thank you note will be conducted at the end of the day at 3:00 pm.  Please encourage your pack, troop, or crew to help with this Tool Time date, or another Saturday on April 8th or May 13th.

Cowboy Action Shoot Rides to Camp Drake

A three tiered option for shooting with various guns at various targets provides older Scouts with a new challenge in Shooting Sports.  Initially, a western scenario is created for the Scouting “good guys” to prove their marksmanship skills.  The test will be to attain a qualifying target score with a .22 pistol, a .22 caliber lever action rifle, and a 20 shotgun.   Scout marksmen will fire at targets in sequence, as the “cowboy” moves from station to station to shoot.  Recognition for their skill levels will be presented to the top shots throughout the week of camp.

GAGA Tourney this Summer

A tournament for all ages in the OCTAGON with Scouts of all skills welcome to smash their combative talents.  The 2017 Camp Robert Drake GAGABALL TOURNEY will be held weekly near the Stiverson Shelter. Several levels of competition will be set up, based on the age brackets of the Scout participants.  As the fastest growing sport at Camp Drake, GAGABALL joins the quick reflexes of Handball, the skillful targeting of Dodgeball, with the elusive moves of high speed Freeze Tag to challenge the competitors inside the wooden eight-sided box.  Start practicing your power swipe and limber up the evasive leaps for an exciting camp tournament.
