Prairielands Training College is set for Saturday, February 11 at The High School of St. Thomas More, 3901 N. Mattis, Champaign.  This outstanding and helpful training event is for adults age 18 and up.  Check-in starts at 7:30am and Opening Ceremonies begin at 8:30am and the Closing is at 4:30pm. The cost is $25 if registered by the deadline of 6pm on Monday, February 6th.

2017 National Jamboree: A Once In A Lifetime Experience!

We are still looking for more Scouts to fill out the Prairielands Council Contingent.  Boy Scouts who are First Class and age 12 (or 11 and completed 6th grade) and under age 18  may attend. 

 

Venturers age 14 and up may attend with a crew from another council.  Call Steve Adams (217)531-0214 if interested.

Youth Achievement Recognition Dinner

RESERVATIONS DUE BY FEBRUARY 10TH AT $32/PERSON.  AFTER FRIDAY COST WILL BE $37/PERSON.    The Youth Achievement Recognition Dinner will be Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1501 S. Neil Street, Champaign, IL.    Reservations are due by Friday, February 10, 2017.   Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 6 p.m.   The reservation form is attached.   Don’t forget that the Summit/Eagle Scout are guest and no charge for them.  

 

KATHRYN BEICH CANDY BARS RETURN

Packs, Troops, Crews, Posts, Patrols, Den or an individual Scout working with an Adult can sign up to sell.

Candy Bars come 36 per box in the One of A Kind Pack, with 2 boxes per case.

 

The Variety Pack has 50 bars and there are 4 per case.

 

All candy bars sell for $1 each and the unit earns 25 cents per bar sold.

 

Candy is available for pick-up at the Council Office on Friday, Feb. 24th.

 

Units should sign up and designate a volunteer candy chairman on the agreement form which was mailed to all unit leaders and committee chairs (see attachment).  The unit order form is due by February 10th (see attachment). We have records of how much each unit sold in the past.  If you need help, we can provide suggestions.

 

Some additional bars can be picked up during the sale.  Cases may not be returned after opening, so your unit wants to make sure it is out before picking up more.

 

We encourage units to turn in money weekly at the council office.  Each Scout selling a box will have his name entered in a prize drawing.  Each Friday in March, a few prizes will be drawn.  The name will remain in the hopper through the sale until the Scout’s name is drawn or the sale ends.

To recognize our top sellers, we will have a Top Seller Prize and Top District Seller for our two districts.

 

All sealed cases and any remaining money are due by March 31.

 

Candy Bar Sale

It’s not too late to preorder your candy bars!   February 10th is the deadline for preorders.  Candy Bar Sale starts Friday, February 24, 2017 and ends Friday, March 31, 2017.   Variety cases (4 boxes of 50) and one-of-a-kind cases (Almond, Caramel, Krunch and Dark Chocolate) are 2 boxes of 36.   We will have weekly prize drawings on March 3rd, March 10th, March 17th and March 24th.  If you would like to know what the unit has sold in the past please let me know.  If you have any questions please contact Sharon Kirk at 217-531-0218 or at sharon.kirk@scouting.org. 

 

MANY TRAILS DISTRICT

 

Many Trails Meeting Moved Location

The next district meeting of the district will be held this Thursday, February 9th beginning at 6:30 pm at the Danville Scout office, instead of the Hoopeston United Methodist Church.  All district committee members and unit commissioners are encouraged to attend this gathering to gear up for the 2017 Scouting year and create plans for upcoming efforts.  Your help in supporting units with leader training and program assistance is needed.

 

PRAIRIE FIRE DISTRICT

 

Unit Commissioner Meeting TOMORROW (Feb. 8, 2017) at 6:00pm at IFSI.  Prizes for having entered unit contact visits.  Snacks.  Friends.  BE THERE.

 

Roundtable!!  TOMORROW (Feb. 8, 2017) at 7:00pm at IFSI on Gerty Drive in Champaign (go to the end of the road on Gerty Drive to the Illinois Fire Safety Institute).

Prairie Fire District Camporee

“TREK AROUND THE WORLD”!!!  April 21 – 23, 2017.  Planet Camp Drake.   Explore experiences based on countries from around the world.  Get your passport punched.  Compete with other patrols for fastest, furthest, best.  Win the trophy and be the first around the world.

 

Registration is open now.  Cost:  $15.00 per person ON OR BEFORE April 14, $20.00 per person after April 14th.  (Volunteer Staff only $5.00)  Cracker Barrel for all staff, Scoutmasters and SPL’s on Friday night.  Saturday lunch provided.

CAMP DRAKE

 

Trail Tromp promotes Liking Hiking

Hike the hills and ravines of the Salt Fork valley during the 2017 Trail Tromp at Camp Robert Drake on Saturday, April 1st.  Members of the Illini Lodge Onaquispassippi Trail Committee will host a morning full of fun along the perimeter path.   Beginning at 9:00 am, hikers can travel the gold-diamond trail amidst the woods of east central Illinois.  The Trail Tromp is a great opportunity to obtain the Onaquispassippi Trail pin at the camp trading post.

Discover the future of the jungle events of the Prairielands Council. Decorate your special banquet in February with Cub Camping Promotional Placemats, designed for the upcoming Blue and Gold season.  Packs from throughout our nine-county council will use the scenes of the outdoors to preview the warm summer fun of Cub Camping.

 

SKY FLY EVENT @ CAMP DRAKE

The next launch date for Prairielands Council rockets will be SATURDAY APRIL 1ST, 2017 at Camp Robert Drake near Oakwood, Illinois.  This event provides a FREE ROCKET for all for new joining Scouts or for recruiting your friend to join.  The Launch Pad is open from 1:00 to 4:00 pm that day.

Tool Time Work Days

Tool Time in the Prairielands Council means volunteers helping to improve your favorite Camp Drake. Each of the Saturdays will begin at 9:00 a.m.  A meal will be served at 12:15 on 3/18, 4/8, and 5/13.    If possible, each work team is encouraged to bring their own outdoor tools for brush clearing, raking, and/or tree trimming.

Elections for New Members

All troop/team leaders should review their Order of the Arrow materials to prepare for the election requirements.  Whether you plan to conduct the election on your own or bring in assistance from your lodge, it is important to designate the date of your election and announce it to the unit as early as possible.  Please inform your Scouts early about the date of your OA election, in order for Scouts with the 2nd Class rank to focus on completion of the eligibility requirements.  Contact your OA leadership, if you need assistance in conducting the election in your troop/team.
