The Prairielands Training College will be held on the north side of Champaign on Saturday, February 11th, 2017. The fantastic training experience allows leaders to select specific educational topics to discover a wide array of Scouting information.
Promote your Unit during Anniversary Week
Promote your pack, troop, or crew this week during the 107th anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America. Tell the simple story of Scouting success in your unit with the fun and benefits of the programs for youth and their families. Use your local media outlets to inform the community about the successful facets of Scouting in your packs, troops, and crews.
Rechartering Deadline on the 13th!!
The council deadline for unit rechartering is January 13, 2017 to complete the on-line membership process, collect the required signatures, and pay the necessary registration fees. YES…that is Friday the 13th!! The toughest step in the process is to conduct a membership inventory within your unit to confirm the members and leaders. Use the details from the inventory to submit the membership retention into the on-line process.

Many Trails District Annual Business Meeting
The Annual Business Meeting of the Many Trails District will be held on Thursday, January 12 in Danville at the First United Methodist Church, 1400 N. Vermilion, beginning at 6:30 pm. Please encourage your unit to send a representative to this 30 minute meeting.
PRAIRIE FIRE DISTRICT
Prairie Fire District Committee
PLEASE NOTE: There will be the annual business meeting for the Prairie Fire District on Monday January 9 at 7:00pm at the IFSI on Gerty Dr. This is where and when we vote on membership for the board and sub-committees. Attendance is urged, requested and begged for ANYONE interested in serving Prairie Fire District on the activities committee, the membership committee, the training committee, the advancement committee, the fundraising/FOS committee, the ScoutReach committee, the camping committee.
You will be receiving a letter in the mail about renewing your membership for those already on the District Committee. Please respond to this mailing as soon as possible.
CUB AND BOY SCOUT ROUNDTABLES
The January roundtable will be held Wed. Jan. 11 at the IFSI on Gerty Dr. This is a new location for this event. Same great programs, new location. Please go to the end of Gerty Dr (just north off 1st St from Windsor Rd). Roundtable will be held at 7:00 pm.
UNIT COMMISSIONER MEETING
The monthly unit commissioner meeting will be held Wed. Jan. 11 at the IFSI on Gerty Dr. As noted for roundtable this is a new location. It is just north of Windsor Rd off of 1st St (turn just north of the credit union then go to the end of the road to the Fire Services Institute). The meeting will be held at 6pm.
If you haven’t checked already, there are program updates to the new Cub program. A year after the new program was rolled out, National has made some tweaks to make the program easier on you the volunteer and the scouts, and make it more likely that you will be finished with ranks by February Blue and Gold banquets. Klondike Derby Sled Race
As the starter yells “GO!”, the reins are tightened and the sleds jump forward, racing down the plateau in a flying fury of boots, gloves, and snow. The annual Klondike Derby sled race is the greatest sporting competition of the Prairielands Council winter event. Don’t miss the Klondike fun at Camp Drake on Saturday, January 28.
Summer Camp Staff
Summer camp staff interviews will be held February 11, 2017 from 9 a.m.-noon at the Champaign Scout office. You will receive your interview time once you fill out your application. Go to www.campdrake.com to fill out your application on line. Applications close on January 31, 2017.
Leadership Needed for Cub Camps
Start planning now to develop a quality summer program for all of the families in your pack. Select the best type of outdoor excursions for the various experience levels of your pack's adult leaders. To conduct a successful Cub Scout camping program, volunteer leadership is required on different time frames to make sure that the youth have a safe and enjoyable experience. Please help educate your pack leadership and parents about all of the various options for outdoor adventure this summer
AOL Honors at Boy Scout Camp
For all recipients of the Arrow of Light award in late 2017, Illini Lodge #55 at the welcoming campfire will conduct a special recognition each Sunday of the summer camp at Camp Robert Drake. As a commemorative honor for achieving the highest rank in Cub Scouting, all Scouts who earned the Arrow of Light this year will be called up on stage during their week of camp attendance.
Klondike Derby Action List
The gear required to explore the POLAR BEAR JAM for the 2017 Klondike Derby has been distributed. . Look for the list to discover the events for the competition at the big event on Saturday, January 28, 2017 on the banks of the Salt Fork!
Camp Staff Option
Any registered Scout, older than age 14 on June 1, 2017, can apply to be a Counselor in Training. Camp Robert Drake is looking for energetic youth to serve as future paid counselors to learn the duties during the 2017 summer.
ORDER OF THE ARROW
Dues Increase for Illini Lodge
For the first time in several years, Illini Lodge has increased the annual rate of membership in our local Order of the Arrow organization. The annual fee will be $15.00 per year. Illini Lodge will continue to support the Prairielands Council and Camp Robert Drake with financial resources, as well as manpower assistance.
In fine Klondike Derby tradition, lodge members have been asked to serve at the council winter challenge at Camp Robert Drake on January 28, 2017. The lodge’s very own Vice-Chief of Activities Blayne Beeson will provide leadership to the lodge’s support of the largest single day event in the council.
