Merit Badge Counselors
Calling ALL merit badge counselors and NOVA counselors: You should have received an email or postal letter within the last two weeks with a request to let the council know if you want to continue on as a counselor for the next calendar year. All counselors expire on Dec. 31, 2016 and we need to know who wants to be renewed and if there are any changes in the list of merit badges that you would like to lead. If you haven’t already, please look for and find that note and respond NOW. If you have any questions contact Linda Atherton at firstname.lastname@example.org or (217)531-0220.
Unit Commissioners Support
A key individual in the development of a healthy unit is the commissioner. The job of a commissioner is to support pack, troop, and crew leaders and their unit committees. A commissioner serves as a coach, a resource person, an advisor, and a sounding board for unit volunteers. Additional commissioners are needed to provide guidance to unit leaders throughout the council.

All chartering organization representatives, Executive Board members living in the district and current members of the district committee are encouraged to attend and participate in the selection of the District Chair and the District Committee. The purpose of this gathering will be to nominate the volunteers for positions of the Many Trails District Committee, as well as the District Chairman, for service to Scouting in the upcoming year. This group of volunteers will serve for the 2017 year. Please encourage your unit to send a representative to this 30 minute meeting.
Family Friends of Scouting Campaign
Each unit is asked to schedule a presentation during the winter months for their Scouting families. The Family Friends of Scouting campaign is a vital component for strengthening our local council. District Scouters will provide an entertaining fund-raising program to packs, troops, and crews to solicit funds for the Prairielands Council. The program highlights the benefits of Scouting and reviews the need for financial support of the Boy Scouts of America

We need those youth applications AS SOON AS CONCEIVABLY POSSIBLE!!! DO NOT HOLD THEM TO TURN IN WITH YOUR RE-CHARTERS. THEY NEED TO BE ENTERED INTO THE SYSTEM WITH EXTREME HASTE!! So, don’t let it go another day. We are here to help you, but we also desperately need your help and understanding that these applications will go a long way towards helping you, your unit, and your council. Thank you!
