PRAIRIE FIRE NEWS

Calendar Update:  The December Roundtable has been CANCELLED.  Use that time to send out your holiday cards.

Thanksgiving is over.  We are all recovering from tryptophan comas.  But Lovetta’s sleigh (minivan) is gassed up and ready to travel to YOU to pick up ANY and ALL youth applications.  There are still several units with unregistered youth participants.  We need those youth applications AS SOON AS CONCEIVABLY POSSIBLE!!!  DO NOT HOLD THEM TO TURN IN WITH YOUR RE-CHARTERS.  THEY NEED TO BE ENTERED INTO THE SYSTEM WITH EXTREME HASTE!!  So, don’t let it go another day.  We are here to help you, but we also desperately need your help and understanding that these applications will go a long way towards helping you, your unit, and your council.  Thank you!

Cub Scout Day Camp committee.  Do you have great ideas for making Cub Day Camp an even better experience this year?  Do you feel there is room for improvement in the annual events?  Do you just want to lend a thoughtful voice to the planning and delivery process.  Be part of the planning and delivery of Cub Day Camp programs, programs that truly are volunteer directed, planned and delivered.  The next meeting of the Day Camp planning committee is tomorrow (Wednesday Nov. 30) at 10am at the Raymond Lee Scout Services Center.  If you are unable to make the meeting please contact Lovetta Ash-Simpson [217-531-0220 or Lovetta.ash-simpson@scouting.org] with input and to be involved.  It takes the input of many people to put together outstanding programs and it is worth it!

Journey to Excellence Information

Each unit should review the success points of Scouting through the Journey to Excellence benchmarks.  The recharter packets for all packs, troops, and crews will have details on the areas of performance.  Please review these program targets with your committee and set goals for the future.   Some of the required statistics are available through Susan Coller at the Raymond Lee Scout Service Center.

Family Campaign

Each unit is asked to schedule a presentation during the winter months for their Scouting families. The Family Friends of Scouting campaign is a vital component for strengthening our local council. District Scouters will provide an entertaining fund-raising program to packs, troops, and crews to solicit funds for the Prairielands Council. The program highlights the benefits of Scouting and reviews the need for financial support of the Boy Scouts of America
