Klondike Polar Bear 2016
Ursus maritimus. Sea Bear. Ice Bear. Nanuq. White bear. Beliy medved. Lord of the Arctic. Old man in the fur cloak. These are just some of the names for polar bears. The 2017 Klondike Derby will celebrate the Ginormous Beast with the theme of Polar Bear Jam on Saturday, January 28. Plan to be a part of the PBJ this winter!

Another Rocket Launch
Scouts and their leaders/families are invited to Camp Drake this Saturday for the opportunity to launch their model rockets. Jason Whaling of Pack 224 in Oakwood is hosting the launching opportunity on the plateau at Camp Drake from 10:00 am until noon on Saturday, November 19. Bring your rocket ready to go into the sky. Extra engines will be available for purchase to launch a second time. Please park in the main parking lot and walk north down along the main road to the big open field by the pine trees.
Re Charter Season
The recharter packets for all packs, troops, and crews are available to be picked up. Starting last Thursday, 11/10/16, charter packets are being distributed. Please contact Mike or Susan to make arrangements for good start to the re-registration process.
Friends of Scouting Family Campaign
The Family Friends of Scouting Campaign kicked off at the District Roundtable, as units signed up for presentation times. Local Scouters will provide an entertaining fund-raising program to packs, troops, and crews to solicit funds for the Prairielands Council. The program highlights the benefits of Scouting and reviews the need for financial support of the Boy Scouts of America. Each unit is encouraged to schedule a presentation during the winter months for their Scouting families.

PRAIRIE FIRE NEWS
Thank you to everyone who attended yesterday’s district committee meeting, and thank you to the dedicated volunteers who are part of the District Committee, especially Chad Beckett; Committee Chair, Dan Strole and Jill Quisenberry; District Commissioners and all the volunteers who chair and staff the committees that drive the activities of the district. As part of discussions held yesterday it was decided that the monthly unit commissioner meeting will move to IFSI the second Wednesdays of each month at 6:00 pm. Decision was also made to cancel the December roundtables. The site for future roundtables is still under investigation. These decisions were made due to scheduling and facility conflicts. The key 3 for PF district are extremely thankful for the use of the LDS Church facilities and look forward to continuing to partner with the membership of that congregation in the future.
A BIG THANK YOU to all the district volunteers who have so faithfully and patiently been cooperating with fall membership and the onset of re-chartering. The council is still running behind on registrations compared to last year so every application is precious and would be ecstatically accepted at the Scout office. If you need pick up of registration forms we can arrange to come to you to get every Scout registered before the holidays and end of the year. If you have not yet done a unit roster assessment with your favorite unit commissioner or district staffer please send a current list of Scouts in your unit to Linda Atherton (email@example.com) and it will be done for you.
If your unit has not yet done so, please pick up your unit re-charter paperwork at the Scout Office. Now is the time to determine your leadership and youth participants going into the New Year. Remember, all re-charters are due in to the Scout Office (signed and paid) by Jan. 13, 2017.

85 Years of Camp Drake
The Camp Launch for the 2017 camping season will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10 at Presence Hospital, located at 1400 W. Park Street in Urbana, just off of University Avenue. The Camp Launch program will include program highlights for Camp Drake in 2017, procedural and registration updates, and tons of fun promotional information. Plan ahead today for a fantastic 85th anniversary camping season!
