Fighting Illini Scout Camporee Updates
The Fighting Illini Scout Camporee is getting closer and we hope you're all getting excited to watch an exciting Big Ten football game at Memorial Stadium! We will have door prizes that will be raffled off and delivered during the movie including Fighting Illini basketball bobbleheads!
We also have a request to all units interested in attending. Please visit the registration page at www.campdrake.com/fisc and register an estimated attendance by this Thursday, September 15th. You can increase or decrease this number anytime on or before September 30th when you make your payment. We need to provide estimates to our food provider and order patches on Friday. Your estimated attendance will provide us with better estimates for our vendors and we thank you in advance.
Finally, please visit the updated information page at http://www.campdrake.com/fighting-illini-scout-camporee-details for the latest information updated earlier today. Please also note that the University is going to require each participant to sign and submit a waiver upon check-in in addition to parts A & B of the medical form. We will post that waiver online as soon as we receive it from the University. If you have any questions, please contact Susan Coller at firstname.lastname@example.org or 217-531-0219 or Kurt Brown at email@example.com or 217-766-6723.

A “BIG THANK YOU” goes out to Bob & Sandy Bantz for leading our Olympic theme Council Fall Camporee this past weekend with more than 150 Scouts, Scouters and volunteers participating in a variety of games and competitions throughout Camp Drake. I would also like to thank Troop 104 and Scoutmaster Derek Gatewood for being the host Troop and working with Bob on this event. Go checkout the final results of all the events on campdrake.com website
Council Activities Committee Meeting Date Changes
We encourage anyone interested in joining the council activities committee to attend one of our meetings to learn more about it. The agenda for the next meeting will include a recap of the Fall Camporee and planning for the Fighting Illini Scout Camporee and the Klondike Derby amongst other topics.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday, September 21st at 7:00 pm. The meeting after that will be Wednesday, October 5th at 7:00 pm at the Raymond Lee Scout Service Center. We will not have a meeting on September 28th as originally printed in the council calendar.
Show and Deliver popcorn is arriving next week and sales start Saturday the 24th.
We will be sorting orders Friday evening from 4-7PM at Knox Warehouse, 1305 N. McKinley Ave, Champaign. Make sure your Unit signs up for a Saturday morning pickup time if they have not already made arrangements. Pickup times start at 7:30AM. Any help is welcome both days.
Unit packets will be available for pickup at the Prairie Fire roundtable. Please remember a Scout is trustworthy and the take orders do not begin until Saturday 24th.
Want to start selling popcorn today?
All Scouts have the opportunity to do On Line sales. This is a great way to reach family and friends who live far away but want to support their Scout with a purchase. Units must set up their Pack, Troop or Crew for on-line sales; this is not done automatically or without the Unit Leaders knowledge. There are several steps involved in both Unit set-up and individual Scout set-up. While this takes a little extra work, it can bring big benefits to individual Scout sales and unit commission. Go to the council website, click on the popcorn pages to get your fund-raising started.
Registration Due Prior to Popcorn Sale
Please register your new Scouts as soon as possible, in order to maintain adequate safety parameters for your new members. Your assistance in quickly registering your new Scouts is very helpful to the Boy Scouts of America and the Prairielands Council. It is important to enter the new members in a timely fashion in order for all official Scouting operations to begin for the new individuals: membership tenure, activity information, fundraising details, insurance coverage, Boy’s Life magazine subscription and advancement requirements.
Please Keep your Sales Forms
Just a simple sales tip, but it has so many benefits that this must be said in bold print. PLEASE KEEP YOUR POPCORN SALES FORMS. These individual records of popcorn sale help in tracking customers, confirming sales records, and provide proof for prize programs. Make the extra effort to maintain a unit file of popcorn sales data, as well as encourage each Scout to hold onto a copy of the sales forms for future reference. This will benefit your sales in the future
Planning Improves Popcorn Sale
Take the time now to plan and coordinate the fund-raising efforts for your unit. By creating a sales plan for your Scouts, additional profits can be earned using individual goals, storefront sales options, show and deliver sales, and bonus incentives. Please plan to follow these simple tips:
1> CONDUCT AN INFORMATIVE, EXCITING POPCORN KICKOFF
2> SET GOALS FOR YOUR UNIT, THEN FOR THE SCOUTS
3> USE AS MANY OF THE POPCORN SALES METHODS AS POSSIBLE

All Cub Scouts should go to the Smilin’ Pumpkin at Camp Robert Drake near Fairmount, IL. All current & potential Cub Scouts and families are invited to join the fun from 1:00 pm to 4:00 on October 23rd. Family participation is encouraged, so siblings can attend and participate. Three different shooting sports areas will be set up to allow for a variety of targets and shooting difficulty. Sports games on the plateau will feature basketball, soccer, and Frisbee games. Mark your calendar for the premier Cub Scout event of the fall.
Cub Scout Family Fun Day at Camp Drake
Show off your stuff at the Many Trails District Family Fun Day on Saturday, October 8th. From 2:00 to 5:00 pm, all Cub Scouts and their families can enjoy shooting sports, and rocketry events at Camp Drake near Oakwood. All Cub Scouts and their siblings invited to join in the fun.
Publicize Scouting for Fall
Throughout the fall, publicity efforts should be made to promote Cub Scout packs in the Prairielands Council. Use recruiting materials that will help to guide your pack to bring in den leaders, plan for the den orientations, and increase youth participation. Yard signs are available to post near your meeting place. Posters can show off Scouting in the many high traffic locations in your community. Plus there are a wide variety of handout flyers that can be shared with schools, churches, libraries, and at community events to promote your pack.
Boy Scout Recruitment
Recruiting rockets are also available for Boy Scouts who bring a friend to join the troop. Encourage your current Boy Scouts to solicit their peers into your fall outdoor events. As students have moved into a new grade in their school, new activities are appealing as young men grow. Remember to offer joining options for the middle school boys in your communities.
Mandatory Outdoor Leader Training
The last opportunity in 2016 for Boy Scout leaders to complete the mandatory requirement for leader training is by participating in the Outdoor Leader training on the weekend of Sept. 30 to Oct 2, 2016.
